Mirka Abralon

Abralon is a unique product. Made by Mirka for the solid surface counter top industry, it has made its way into automotive and woodworking. It is a hook and loop abrasive that is foam backed.
What does that mean? It is soft, like having a 1/4″ soft interface pad on the mandrel. It is porous, and meant to be used for wet sanding. Use water or an oil as a lubricant (not a solvent!) and it shines
Use it for wet sanding out a film finish, like lacquer. Don’t skip grits. I will level the finish with (wet sanding) 600-800 gold, then wet sand 1000, 2000 then 4000 before using automotive buffing compounds
for a glass finish.
The other property it has, because of a different scratch pattern, is using a 500 grit dry after you have used 400 gold dry on wood to show errant scratches and gouge burnishes left behind. I would swear it’s magic.
